Aug. 30, 31 & Sept. 1 = Jersey County Victorian Festival is an event that promotes "History in Motion" through Civil War reenactments, encampments, agricultural demonstrations, antiques and working crafts, taking a step back in time to view our history and to give visitors an opportunity to get closer to our past. The Jersey County Victorian Festival has been awarded the "Top 100 Event for 2008" by the American Bus Association. This national award is in recognition of this wonderful family event that has many segments for visitors to enjoy on Labor Day Weekend. Arts, crafts and working artisans will be demonstrating woodcarving, gunsmithing, spinning of wool, pottery, musical and rhythm instruments of the period and blacksmithing. It will be held on Labor Day Weekend and is located one mile North of Jerseyville, Il. on Route 67. Adults: $7; Children: $2; under 6 Free. Sept. 27 = Annual Jersey County Historical Society Apple Festival. The Festival is located at the Cheney Mansion, 601 North State Street (Highway 67), Jerseyville, IL. Hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. A Pet Parade will be held at 10 AM with a Pet show to follow. There will be craft and period demonstrating booths for everyone’s enjoyment. Jesse & the South Band and the Christian Band of Otterville will entertain everyone in the afternoon. Children’s games will be conducted by the Methodist Church Youth Group. The Society will hold a quilt raffle, basket raffles and a raffle for a Party for 8 Children will be held. The Society will be serving Pioneer Stew, Ham and Beans with cornbread, chicken strips, fish, fries, hot dogs, pie and cake and Kettle Korn. Sept. 27 & 28 = Heritage Days on the Goshen Trail. The annual event runs from 9:00 until 5:00 both days, rain or shine. The living history festival spans the years 1700 through 1840, and will feature authentic demonstrations and sales by traditional artisans. Folk dancers and singers, dulcimer players, bagpipers, storytellers, folk musicians, children’s activities, foods of the period, and hands-on quilting are just a few of the activities scheduled during the two days. Admission is $5 for adults, $2 for children (5-12), a two day pass is $8 for adults and $3 for children. Group rates are available, call 618-251-9788 for information. A shuttle bus runs from free parking areas to the festival, which is handicapped-accessible. Sept. 28 = Classic and Hot Rod Car Show & Swap Meet. The event will be on the parking lot at Antique Treasures, 920 E. Woodlawn Dr., Farmington, MO. Rain date will be Oct. 5. The car show hours are 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Car Judging will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Trophies will be awarded in 19 categories including 4 x 4, project car, Original cars, Muscle machines, Truck original and much more. Oct. 4 & 5 = 200th Birthday Celebration at Thomas Sappington House, 1015 South Sappington Road, Crestwood, MO will celebrate its 200th birthday on Oct. 4 & 5. The home was built in 1808 and is believed to be the oldest brick house in St. Louis Missouri County. Demonstrations of period crafts will be displayed on the grounds of the historical house. Oct. 18 & 19 = Missouri’s French-German & Osage pasts come alive at Deutsch Country Days. Hours: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. More than eighty folkways and skills of our German forefathers--just as they toiled more than 150 years ago--will be presented at the living history weekend to observe, discover and learn how our ancestors lived and progressed. The Pre-1800 area features a gunsmith, French trappers, blacksmith, bow making and archery demonstrations. As you stroll along the picturesque Osage Trail, lined with colorful autumn foliage you discover several Native American lodges, Teepee’s, longhouses and a Wicki-up, all authentically hand-reproduced by the volunteers. Each locale have Native American’s demonstrating drum and flute making, flint napping, tanning. All these educational and historic exhibits are located on the Luxenhaus Farm, three miles northeast of Marthasville, MO on Highway O and an hour west of St. Louis in Warren County.
